Summer Staff Positions

Residential Advisor, Discipline Assistant or Intern
 

Preparations are now in full swing for GSA 2008, which will be held at Transylvania University in Lexington. You are eligible to apply for a position with GSA and we hope many of you will consider joining our successful team. Please also share this information with Resident Advisors at your college/university who might be interested in being part of the Governor’s School for the Arts. It is not a requirement to be an alumnus of GSA in order to be on staff.

Key Dates Applicants Would Need To Be Available:
Training Period:    June 17-21, 2008 at Transylvania University in Lexington – Report to campus June 16 (Training for all RAs, DAs, and Interns)

GSA 2008            June 22-July 12, 2008

Other Important Information:
Minimum wage ($5.85/hr.; $6.55/hr. starting July 1, 2008) with overtime, plus room and board, are provided by GSA. (GSA withholds taxes on compensation.)

Your résumé citing your education and employment history. Please give special emphasis to any experience you have that would pertain to the position(s). As well, include any special interests/skills and community service involvement.
Please include a current address and phone number, home address and phone number, cell phone number, email address, birthdate and Social Security Number (used for records checks).
A cover letter which details your interest in the position. Please list which position(s) you are interested in applying for.
Three professional references. Please include the name, title, occupation, business phone, home phone (if possible), relationship to you (employer, professor, etc.) and the length of time each reference has known you. Letters of recommendation are not necessary.

 

Please submit all materials by Thursday, December 6, 2007 in order to be considered for any position. From résumés submitted, we will select applicants for interviews. If selected, we will email you to schedule a 30 minute interview for December 17th-21st; possibly 27-28th during the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Only applicants with a drive equal to or greater than 3 hours will be granted a phone interview.) If these dates conflict with your school’s winter session, please indicate the date you will be available for an interview in your cover letter. Those not selected for an interview will be notified by December 14th.

Resident Advisor Application Information

It is preferable that candidates have college or camp residential advising experience. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year in college before the beginning of the summer program. Resident Advisors live with the students in the dorms and supervise a group of 10 students. The RAs are lead by a Head RA, two Residential Supervisors and a Counselor.

If you have served as a GSA RA previously and have an interest in Head RA or Co-Residential Supervisor, please indicate in cover letter.

Discipline Assistant Application Information

Candidates for GSA’s Discipline Assistantships should have an interest in a teaching career and should have completed their freshman year in college at the beginning of the summer program. Discipline assistants are part of the instructional team and responsibilities are that of a student teaching position. DAs serve as a liaison between the faculty and students. Each artistic discipline has one discipline assistant, with the exception of instrumental music, which has two.

Summer Administrative Internship Application Information

This position was created to allow our alumni a chance for continued involvement with GSA while developing administrative skills and building valuable work experience. We are willing to work with your college or university in helping you to gain college credit (if applicable).

Candidates for GSA’s internship positions should have an interest in arts administration and should have completed their freshman year in college at the beginning of the summer. There are three intern positions available (2 during the summer program only; 1 for pre-summer (in Louisville) and summer program). Responsibilities include assisting with preparations for and the administration of the summer program. Other projects will be arranged according to the intern’s interests and as they relate to pre-arranged college credit requirements. Housing will be provided for the length of the GSA summer program only.
