Artshops are generously sponsored by National City, with supporting sponsorship provided by AEGON (Louisville), The Keeneland Foundation (Lexington), and The Mansbach Foundation (Ashland).
In the fall of 1997, the Governor's School for the Arts began a statewide outreach initiative with the funds from the General Assembly of the Commonwealth. This outreach took the form of "Artshops."
The purpose of these FREE Artshops is to provide high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors with the opportunity to spend a day in a facility close to their hometown in a hands-on arts enrichment opportunity to participate in a masterclass in their artform led by a GSA faculty member or guest artist. Students also learn about the GSA summer program, audition and application procedures, as well as other arts opportunities in their area.
If you’re a high school painter, singer, musician, dancer, actor, writer, or any other sort of aspiring artist, then the time to start planning for next summer is now!
The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts is holding free, one-day ArtShops throughout Kentucky this fall, and it’s the perfect chance to experience what GSA is all about. Students choose an art form to specialize in from GSA’s core offerings of architecture, creative writing, dance, drama, instrumental music, musical theatre, new media, visual art and vocal music.
