GSA greeted an eerie morning on July 7. In celebration of architecture immersion day, guest artist Dr. Karen Lewis was invited to talk about her plans for the Flight 93 Memorial Project in Pennsylvania, meanwhile, London was under attack by terrorists. The coincidence reminds us of the instability of the world we live in, and of the urgency to live fully while you can. Dr. Lewis' presentation, showcasing her finalist design that is one of five remaining entries in a contest with thousands of applicants, brought a serene aura over the audience as she explained how her feelings about September 11th were reflected in her design.

Following the morning announcements, students took pleasure in morning classes; including guest artist and renowned pianist Harry Pickens in Creative Writing. During the latter half of lunch, many students enjoyed one of our two smorgs: Exquisite Corpse (architecture) and Arts Administration: Ask the Staff (conducted by GSA administration).

Instrumental music students learn that collaboration is oftentimes a key element of performance.

The evening included more studio time and guest artists for the students; Frank X. Walker instructed creative writing, Margery McDuffle Wheatley entertained instrumental music with a piano recital, and vocalist Andrea Jones showcased for vocal music. The talents of the guests floored all in attendence, thus ending yet another day with inspirtation of what goals can be acheived down the road of life.

Architecture students listen to an instructor before breaking off into groups and allowing their creative images to become real designs.

2002 Creative Writing Alum Howard Wang returns to GSA to take part in a workshop.
