Today’s morning performance from Tony Nominee Melissa Hart started us off in the Broadway spirit for Musical Theatre’s Immersion Day. Ms. Hart also gave a Master Class for the Musical Theatre students, and bringing her in from Houston’s Alley Theatre is just one of many examples of what GSA’s amazing administration and faculty can provide for GSA students each summer.

Our Photographer and Documentarian Kevin Flores (you can thank him for all of the beautiful pictures you see on these web pages) and his brother David Flores taught a screenwriting workshop for the Creative Writers today.

The Musical Theatre faculty taught a Smorg called “So You Think You’re A Triple Threat”, and before classes resumed after lunch the whole school sat down to watch these students perform Chicago in 10 minutes!

Melissa Hart stayed to teach another Master Class for the Musical Theatre students, and Eastern Kentucky University Professor and Principal Trumpet player for the EKU Brass, Joseph Van Fleet, taught a Master Class for the Instrumental Musicians.

James Baker Hall, a writer and photographer, taught a workshop for the Creative Writers. Mr. Hall is a former Poet Laureate of Kentucky and the recipient of the O. Henry and Pushcart Prizes as well as NEA Fellowships. He has also lectured on photography at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rhode Island School of Design, and the Minneapolis Museum of Art, was formerly a Contributing Editor for Aperture, and is one of the last living members of the famed Lexington Camera Club.

In the evening, Instrumental Music students toughed it out through a little bit of rain and listened to the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra’s patriotic concert on the eve of the Fourth of July.

Tony Nominee Melissa Hart sang Broadway tunes and spoke about her experiences in life as a "triple threat."

At night the RAs had a treat in store for the students—the gym was decorated “fiercely” for the student dance. There was a red carpet that also served as a runway for some “walk-offs”, a photo booth, and of course, a dance floor. It was a great way to cut loose before the final week of GSA.

Until tomorrow, this is GSA ’08 intern Laura Lamping Greenwell signing off.
