GSA Daily: Dance Immersion Day and the Weekend
Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, 2008

Our first weekend during GSA gave us all a chance to catch our breath after a fast-paced week of performances and studios—but that didn’t mean taking a “break” at all! Saturday was Dance Immersion Day, and for the morning performance we saw Dance faculty member Joe Nygren Cox’s Crossing Lines Project. The Crossing Lines Project came out of a desire to cross the lines between several forms of dance, and Mr. Cox and his wife Kimberly Nygren Cox choreographed all of the pieces that were performed.

For today’s Smorgs the Dance faculty broke their classes up into teams:

Team Theresa: Jazz,   Team Cassie: Tap,   Team Chris: Modern

After the Smorg, the teams competed and the whole school voted Team Theresa to be the winner.

Team Theresa won the Dance Wars Smorg.
Joe Nygren Cox and fellow dancers caught some major air in the piece titled The Funk Bomb.

The weekend also offered time for fieldtrips and workshops. New Media students woke up early for the Lexington Farmer’s Market to take pictures and film, and Visual Art students visited Visual Art faculty member Waseem Touma’s studio here in Lexington. All students have the chance to attend worship services of their choosing.

Another important part of weekends at GSA is the Coffeehouse performance—an opportunity for students to sign up to show off their talents individually or by collaborating with others.

After getting a chance to rest up this weekend the students, faculty, and staff were all ready to begin the second week of GSA.

Until tomorrow, this is GSA ’08 intern Laura Lamping Greenwell signing off.
