Raising support for the arts should be fun! While direct monetary and in-kind contributions to GSA are greatly appreciated, many friends of GSA have raised significant amounts of support for the program by doing what they do best – getting creative!
GSA supporters have held everything from yard sales to recitals to maintain and increase GSA’s ability to impact the lives of people across Kentucky. What’s your idea? Let us know at gsainfo@kentuckycenter.org!
GSA SHOWCASES
In the fall of 2010, a group of Lexington-based GSA alumni came together with an amazing idea. After contacting GSA alumni, faculty, and guest artists far and wide, they organized an evening of GSA-generated performances and exhibitions entitled “A Night for the Arts: GSA Showcase.” All nine of GSA’s disciplines were represented during a two-hour program at Lexington Catholic High School, with visual art, new media, and architecture alumni setting up their work in the theatre lobby. The alumni divvied up the needs for stage management, finding a venue, marketing the event, and everything in between. After requesting a nominal donation for each person attending the event, this one group of GSA alumni raised $1,555! The boards of The Kentucky Center agreed to match this stunning show of support, raising the total impact of this one evening to more than $3,000 – more than the cost to support one student at GSA’s summer program.

OTHER IDEAS
Check out these GSA supporters who are developing ways to create art to support GSA!
- Lathan Vargason (Visual Art, 2011) will donate proceeds from any sales made from his work included in The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center’s exhibition “Bits and Pieces” to GSA.
- Nathaniel Mo (Instrumental Music, 2011) held a piano recital in his hometown of Bowling Green. Instead of charging admission for the recital, Nathaniel asked for donations to GSA.
- GSA Advisory Council Member Kim Wilson held a yard sale, with proceeds made at the sale going to GSA.
The possibilities are endless! What will you think up?!
